Gary Carlton was once one of television's most feared investigative reporters. Politicians avoided him. CEOs dreaded his calls. Then one reckless mistake destroys his career and leaves him scrambling to pay his daughter Chloe's college tuition.

Desperate for work, Gary accepts the only job available: host of a relentlessly upbeat local television segment self-named Good News Gary. To him, stories about lemonade stands, Halloween decorating contests, and community gardens aren't journalism. They're fluff.

As Gary begrudgingly works the beat, he encounters people whose kindness, resilience, and generosity begin to challenge his deeply cynical view of the world. Complicating matters is Victor Shaw, a brilliant media consultant who believes outrage, conflict, and fear are the only stories audiences truly care about. Victor sees greatness in Gary and tempts him back toward the hard-edged journalist he once was.

As ratings rise and Gary's popularity grows, he faces a choice between the career he always wanted and the life he never realized he needed.
